Did you know that all of Coletta & Tysons bedding plants are peat free! Using the environmentally friendly Summer bedding EasyecoplantTM
Our EasyecoplantTM Summer bedding is 100% recycable, 100% sustainable and environmentally friendly.
As a second generation wholesale and retail horticultural business, Coletta & Tyson have been behind a number of innovations in the horticultural industry from introducing new varieties to developing new equipment. The company, run by John and Paul Tyson, has been driven by what its customers as well as the end customer, the gardener wants.
For EasyecoplantTM, we worked with different suppliers to develop a 100% recyclable tray made from recycled plastic bottles. Even so, the container is strong and flexible meaning the plants are easier to remove without damage. The registered design has allowed us to reduce the volume of packaging by 50% and the overall footprint by 25% compared to the previous polystyrene pack.
After extensive trials in our nursery we found that coir was a great substitute for the plants to grow in than peat. Coir comes from the waste pith of coconuts and is a completely sustainable resource that is also environmentally friendly. For our total Summer production we will use the waste pith of 12,910,125 coconuts rather than using excavated peat which is damaging to the environment. There are many benefits of using coir for the plants; coir is airier than peat when saturated with water. Unlike peat, coir has the characteristic to easily resaturate which is ultimately better for plant roots.
Our EasyecoplantTM is easier to plant and much cleaner too with the coir and roots covered with a biodegradable netting. It's better for the plant and better for the planet. We hope you think the same.
